Media Credential Applications available for 2001 World Championships of Wrestling in New York City,

USA Wrestling and NYC2012 and have announced that media credential applications are now available for the 2001 World Championships of Wrestling, which will be held in Madison Square Garden in New York City, Sept. 26-29. A media credentials application form has been developed and is being sent via mail and FAX to major news and sports organizations. A copy of the credential application will also be available on USA Wrestling's web page (http://www.usawrestling.org) in the Press Room section. A link to the credential form is being made from the World Championships of Wrestling web page located on TheMat.com (http://www.TheMat.com/2001worlds). The deadline for all credential applications is September 1, 2001. Journalists from across the United States and around the world are encouraged to send in their application forms as soon as possible. Acceptance letters will be sent to deserving press organizations as they are received. Others may be placed on a waiting list, based upon availability of media access. The World Championships of Wrestling will feature all three styles of international wrestling: men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman and women's freestyle wrestling. It is expected to be the most important international sporting event hosted in the United States this year. "It is our goal to set the record for the most media attending a wrestling event in America," said Gary Abbott, Director of Special Projects for USA Wrestling. "With all three styles of wrestling held at the same time, media representatives from across the world are expected to attend in record numbers. With the tournament being hosted in New York City, considered one of the world's media and cultural capitals, the press interest should be tremendous." A media hotel has been organized for media representatives seeking housing in New York City. The Southgate Towers, located at 371 7th Avenue, will serve as the media hotel. The nightly rate is $229, plus tax. Media organizations can secure reservations through the credential process. The United States last hosted a World Championships in 1995, when the Freestyle World Championships were held at the Omni in Atlanta, Ga. The U.S. hosted the event three other times: in San Diego, Calif. (1979), in Toledo, Ohio (1966) and in Toledo, Ohio (1962). Tickets for the World Championships at Madison Square Garden are on sale now, with single session ticket prices starting as low as $10. All-session passes are priced as low as $99 for the eight total sessions, with family packages starting at just $308. Individual session tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster by calling 1-212-307-7171. All-session passes, Gold Passes and Group Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-866-NYC-2001
