Joe Corso and Dominique Smalley to give clinic prior to Ames Women's Freestyle Tournament in Iowa, M



Joe Corso of West Des Moines, Iowa and Dominique Smalley of Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri will conduct a technique clinic prior to the Ames Women's Freestyle tournament. Smalley, a graduate of City High of Iowa City has made her mark on the women's wrestling scene placing 4th and 2nd in the last two US Nationals. She has won titles in the University Nationals, FILA Junior Nationals, and Cadet Nationals. Her International competitiveness has earned high placing in Sweden's Klippan Lady's Open, Poland International Open, Missouri Valley International, Canada's Bison International Open, the Sunkist Open and the Dave Schultz Memorial Open. She wrestles for the Missouri Valley College team and has the number 2 USA ranking at 75 kg. Smalley appears at this event as part of USA Wrestling's Athlete Appearance Program. Corso has made an impact in the wrestling world after a highly successful wrestling career. A member of the 1976 US Olympic Freestyle Team, 3rd in the 1979 World Championships, 1979 Pan American Championships champion and a gold medal at the 1992 Veterans World Champions are just a few of his accomplishments. Corso has been very influential in women's wrestling, serving as coach for the 2001 USA World Team and has coached several men's teams in international competition and as a coach for the Sunkist Kids has won several team titles. The Ames Women's Freestyle Tournament is open to schoolgirls (born in 1987-88), cadets (1985-86) and juniors (high school 9-12 grade). The entry fee is $8 and competitors must have a current USA Wrestling membership. Cards will be available at the tournament. Weigh ins are from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m.
