AKRON, Ohio â€" Trinity Plessinger was named Outstanding Wrestler after winning a University Nationals women’s freestyle title on Sunday.
Plessinger knocked off 2009 World Team member Jessica Medina in the finals at 55 kg/121 lbs. Plessinger won 5-1, 1-0 over Medina, who was competing up a weight class.
Olympian and World Team member Ali Bernard celebrated her 24th birthday by winning the title at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.
World Team member Elena Pirozhkova won the title at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.
Alyssa Lampe won the loaded weight class at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. She beat past Junior World champion Victoria Anthony in the finals. Anthony beat past Junior World champion Nicole Woody en route to the finals.
The top two finishers in each weight class qualify for June’s U.S. World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
