Stanford's Amuchastegui named Elite 88 Award Winner for NCAA Division I Wrestling

OMAHA â€" Stanford’s Nick Amuchastegui was named the NCAA’s Elite 88 award winner for Division I Wrestling it was announced today at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

The Elite 88 award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 88 championships.

In the classroom, Amuchastegui carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average in mechanical engineering. On the mat, the redshirt sophomore from Talent, Ore., is a two-time NCAA qualifier at 165 pounds. Amuchastegui owns a 30-4 record this season, a mark that was bolstered by a first-round win over third-seeded Nick Marable of Missouri today at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
