Les Sigman named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 2-8

Les Sigman (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 2-8.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Sigman won the freestyle title at the Dave Schultz Memorial International on Feb. 6 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Sigman was named Outstanding Wrestler.

Sigman knocked off 2009 World bronze medalist Ioannis Arzoumanidis of Greece in the semifinals at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. before he downed 2008 Olympian Lei Liang of China in the finals.

It was Sigman's second international win of the season. He won the Hargobind event earlier this season in Canada. He also took second at the New York AC International.

Sigman placed third in the 2009 U.S. Nationals.

He was a four-time NCAA Division II champion for Nebraska-Omaha.

Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
