Purity Wholesale Grocers named official sponsor of 2009 Grappling World Championships

Purity Wholesale Grocers, Inc. (PWG) of Boca Raton, Fla., as the official sponsor of the 2009 Grappling World Championships, which will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dec. 11-13.

PWG is providing support for the management of the competition, as well as the U.S. Grappling World Team, which will participate in the event.

PWG has been listed among Forbes top 150 private-owned companies. Purity Wholesale Grocers has grown to become a nationwide network of companies and divisions with headquarters in Boca Raton. The Purity family of companies are based coast-to-coast, and specialize in products ranging from frozen food to health and beauty care, dairy, dry goods, and candy.

PWG was the official sponsor for USA Wrestling's Greco-Roman National Team for five years, from 2000-2004. This included support for the U.S. Greco-Roman athletes and teams which competed in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia as well as the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. The USA won three medals in Greco-Roman at the Sydney Games and another medal at the Athens Games.

"We have always tried to support the developing sports," said PWG Chairman of the Board Jeff Levitetz. "We felt that our involvement with Greco-Roman produced tangible results. This is an opportunity to help with Grappling, which is an emerging sport. We like the involvement at this level. The chance to bring a World Championships to our back yard is also very exciting."

Levitetz serves as the Managing Director of USA Grappling, helping lead the national effort for the development of the sport in the United States. He has also been a major leader within international wrestling, serving as the Team Leader for the 2004 Olympic Greco-Roman Team. Levitetz was named 2004 USA Wrestling Man of the Year. In 2002, Levitetz was named as an Outstanding American by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, which recognizes former wrestlers for their success in all walks of life.
