Chris Pendleton (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Oct. 20-26.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Pendleton was named Outstanding Wrestler after winning the Sunkist Kids International Open men’s freestyle title on Sunday at 84 kg/185 lbs.

Pendleton beat 2008 Olympian Ben Askren 2-1, 1-1 in the finals.

In the first period, Pendleton was able to turn Askren after scoring a takedown. In the second period, Pendleton scored the winning point on a pushout.

Pendleton, who wrestled for Oklahoma State, defeated Askren, from the University of Missouri, in the NCAA finals in 2005 and 2006.

They have not competed in freestyle because they were in different weight classes.

Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
