Massa, Roberts, Grey keep rolling as first day of Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals concludes

FARGO, N.D. – The first day of wrestling is done for the 782 Greco-Roman wrestlers at the Cadet Nationals.

And a number of wrestlers are in position to do some very big things.

Michigan’s Taylor Massa remains alive in his quest to win his second straight Triple Crown in Cadets. He won all four of his bouts by technical fall on Saturday at 152 pounds.

Massa, a Cadet champion at Folkstyle Nationals earlier this year, is trying to become the first wrestler to win back-to-back Triple Crowns in the Cadet division. He would need to win titles in Greco-Roman and freestyle over the next week in Fargo to complete the Triple Crown.

The ASICS/Vaughan Cadet and Junior National championships, presented by the U.S. Marines, is being contested over the next eight days on 23 mats at the FargoDome.

Two other returning Cadet National double champions from Fargo, Nick Roberts of Pennsylvania (98) and Mark Grey of New Jersey (112), are off to strong starts. Roberts won his first four bouts and Grey won his first five.

Roberts won by fall in each of his bouts on the first day of wrestling. Grey, younger brother of Cornell All-American Mike Grey, won four matches by technical fall and one by fall on Saturday.

2008 Cadet freestyle national champion Zachary Horan of Pennsylvania (125) is looking for a title in Greco-Roman. Horan won his opening five matches on Saturday.

Iowa’s Dylan Peters also won by fall in all four of his matches at 98 pounds.

The Cadet Greco-Roman competition will continue on Sunday with the finals set for Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Fargo.

The Junior Greco-Roman competition is scheduled to start on Sunday morning at 9:30 at the FargoDome.
