USA Wrestling's Beach wrestling season is upon us, as athletes of all ages are heading to the beach to test themselves in one of the most popular new styles of wrestling.
Events have already been held in New Mexico, Oregon and Virginia, and many more tournaments are expected to be hosted in the upcoming weeks.
This weekend, the wrestling community in North Carolina is very excited with the hosting of the first North Carolina State Beach Wrestling Championships, set for Saturday, June 13 at Carolina Beach, N.C. Wrestlers from across the Southeast region are expected to come to this event and enjoy a competitive day of wrestling on the ocean.
The Carolina Beach area is a family friendly beach area located just minutes from Wilmington, NC. The area is known as "Pleasure Island," and is home to the North Carolina Aquarium, Historic Fort Fisher, and other attractions. Carolina Beach will be bringing in amusement rides to the boardwalk area. This tradition dates back to the 1950s and helped make Carolina Beach one of the favorite beaches in North Carolina. There will also be a Battle of the Bands event taking place on the boardwalk during and after the tournament.
