Quotes from U.S. wrestler Steve Mocco and Coach Kevin Jackson after Thursday's afternoon session of the Olympic Games

USA Wrestling
08/23/2008
120 kg/264.5 lbs. - Steve Mocco (Colorado Springs, Colo.)

“I came here to wrestle. I was well-coached and well-prepared. I’d like to thank my family, my coaches and my friends for being here for me. I have nothing to talk about. I didn’t succeed.”

On the loss to Akhmedov of Russia:
“He wrestled well. I have nothing to say about it. I thought I was well-prepared.”

On his performance:
“I felt all right. I didn’t have the result I wanted.”

U.S. Coach Kevin Jackson (Colorado Springs, Colo.)

On Mocco's loss in the wrestlebacks:
"Obviously, it's very disappointing to lose that match. We felt Steven had a chance to come back and win the bronze medal. It was another mistake by an Olympic Team member. He was winning by one with very little time left and we weren't able to put our shut-down defense on and stop that Iranian from scoring. Steve just wasn't reacting like he normally reacts. He did some things that were out of character for him. I've never seen him cartwheel in a match before, and the cartwheel cost us three points. I just had a conversation with him and he said he didn't know where his head was at. He did some things that were out of character and he's regretting them now."
