Sam Hazewinkel named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for July 8-14

Sam Hazewinkel (Norman, Okla./Gator WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for July 8-14.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Hazewinkel won a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling on July 12 at the University World Championships in Thessoloniki, Greece.

Hazewinkel, a past four-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma, downed Kazakhstan's Yemar Ramazanov 1-2, 5-0, 5-0 in the finals at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Hazewinkel (Norman, Okla./Gator WC) placed second at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
