Casey LaNave named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for May 29-June 4

Casey LaNave (Binghamton, N.Y./Team Worldwide Wrestling Club) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for May 29-June 4.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

LaNave won Cadet 119-pound championships in freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle at the Northeast Regional on June 1-3 in Fairfield, Conn. It marked the third straight year LaNave has won a Northeast Regional Triple Crown.

LaNave narrowly missed winning a USA Wrestling National Triple Crown last year in the Schoolboy division. He placed second at the Kids Folkstyle Nationals in 2006 before winning gold medals at the Kids Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals.

LaNave placed second in the New York state high school tournament as a seventh grader. He is an eighth-grader at Chenango Forks Middle School, but is eligible to wrestle on the high school team.

Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
