Maccabiah Wrestling Team Trials set for Philadelphia, Pa., Nov. 4-5



The Maccabiah Team Trials will be hald at the the Univ. of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on November 4-5, 2000. This will be a freestyle tournament with the winners in each weight class qualifying for the USA Maccabiah Wrestling Team. The Maccabiah Games is for Jewish athletes. Competitors must be USA Wrestling members. Cards will be available at the tournament. Competition will be in the eight international weight classes. The 16th Maccabiah Games will be in Israel in July of 2001. Jewish athletes representing countries from all around the world compete in Israel every four years at the Maccabiah Games, which are a multi-sport event much like the Olympics. The USA contingency will consist of over 700 athletes, and the wrestling team will have 8 wrestlers who will compete in Freestyle and Greco Roman. The wrestling at the Maccabiah Games is a very competitive tournament, with a number of Russian-based wrestlers who compete for the various countries. The USA wrestling contingency over the years has been very strong and has featured USA National team members, NCAA champions, all-Americans, and collegiate wrestlers. The Maccabiah experience is much more than your average wrestling trip and competition. The Maccabiah Games give athletes the opportunity to tour Israel and realize a fantastic cultural experience.
