Missouri's Ryan Mango named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for March 27-April 2

Ryan Mango (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield High School) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for March 27-April 2.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

Mango defeated a pair of young USA Wrestling standouts - Florida's Clark Glass and Wisconsin's Jesse Thielke - to win the Cadet 98-pound class at the ASICS/USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals on March 31 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Mango, a double Cadet Nationals champion, downed Glass 13-6 in the semifinals before outlasting Thielke 11-9 in the finals.

Glass has won a handful of USA Wrestling national titles and was a Florida state high-school champion this past season. Thielke is a past USA Wrestling Triple Crown winner. Thielke won the Ultimate Dominator Award on April 1 after scoring the most overall points in USA Wrestling's Ultimate Challenge Series for folkstyle wrestling.

Mango recently won a Missouri state high school title. He is the younger brother of University World Greco-Roman champion and Junior World bronze medalist Spenser Mango.

Both Mangos are expected to compete in Las Vegas this week. Ryan is scheduled to compete at the Junior level and Spenser at the Senior level at the U.S. Nationals. Spenser Mango placed second at the U.S. Nationals in 2006.

Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
