Daniel Cormier named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Sept. 5-11

Daniel Cormier (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Sept. 5-11.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

USA Wrestling coaches praised Cormier's work ethic this past week as the American men's freestyle team completed its final training camp before the World Championships.

Cormier is scheduled to compete in the World Championships at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. on Sept. 29. The United States men's freestyle team is scheduled to leave Saturday, Sept. 16 for the World meet in Guangzhou, China. The week-long competition is scheduled for Sept. 25-Oct. 1.

Cormier has made his fourth straight World-level team. He placed fifth at the 2003 World Championships and fourth at the 2004 Olympics. He did not place at the 2005 World Championships.
