Neptune Festival Beach Brawl Wrestling Championships set for Virginia Beach, Va., Sept. 30 – Oct. 1

The USA Wrestling Beach Wrestling season continues this fall with the Neptune Festival Beach Brawl Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

This event will have two competitions, an individual tournament Saturday, September 30 and a team dual meet tournament, the "Beach Brawl Duals" on Sunday, October 1. In the dual meet portion, entire teams can be entered, or individuals can be placed on a team through a draft system.

The wrestling tournament is part of the larger 33rd annual Neptune Festival in Virginia Beach, a major family activity held each year on the Virginia shore. The Neptune Festival routinely attracts over 300,000 people to Virginia Beach.

This event is organized by the Virginia Challenge, the same wrestling leaders who presented the North American Beach Championships in Virginia Beach in June.

"This is a great weekend for people to come down to Virginia Beach for a weekend getaway and have some wrestling in their itinerary," said Frank Lipoli of the Virginia Challenge, the organizer of the wrestling event.

Lipoli is very pleased with the success of the dual meet portion of the competition, which was well received during the North American event in June. He encourages wrestlers to enter both tournaments and enjoy the weekend at the beach.

Beach Wrestling was added as a new style of international wrestling, starting in 2005. Athletes compete on sand, in a style that features takedowns within a ring. The sport is gaining in popularity as more people are trying the new style.
