No. 2 Sharon Jacobson, El Cajon, Calif. (USOEC/Gator WC) pinned unseeded Malinda Ripley, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids), 0:47 left (second period)


1st period

Jacobson comes out aggressively and attacks the legs in gaining a 3-0 lead. Jacobson continues to put the pressure on in the match. Jacobson wins the first period 3-0.

2nd period

Jacobson shoots in for a takedown 20 seconds into the period and records the fall 47 seconds into the period.

No. 3 Marcel Cooper, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army) dec. unseeded Mike Ellsworth, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC), 2-1, 5-0


1st period

Cooper is on the attack early, spinning behind Ellsworth in the early stages of the match. Giant-killer Ellsworth ties it 1-1 before Cooper gains a late point to take the period 2-1.

2nd period

Cooper spins around Ellsworth again for a takedown to jump to a 1-0 lead. Cooper lifts and launches Ellsworth for a superb three-point throw to build a commanding 4-0 advantage. Cooper adds a late point to win 5-0.

No. 3 Henry Cejudo, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids) dec. No. 1 Matt Azevedo, Arroyo Grande, Calif. (Sunkist Kids), 0-1, 2-1, 4-2


1st period

Azevedo is the aggressor from the start, peppering the high school phenom with shots as he wins the first period 1-0.

2nd period

Cejudo comes back to turn Azevedo and grab a 2-1 lead early in the second period. Cejudo holds off Azevedo's shot attempts to even the match by winning the period 2-1.

3rd period

Cejudo is down 1-0, but comes right back with a spectacular four-point throw with just over a minute left in the match. Azevedo closes within two with a takedown with 35 seconds left. Cejudo wins the period 4-2 to earn the victory.

Women 59 kg/130 lbs.
No. 1 Sally Roberts, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Gator WC) dec. No. 2 Erin Tomeo, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids), 0-6, 3-2, 4-1


1st period

Tomeo gains a takedown and two-point exposure to lead 3-0. She quickly goes up 4-0 with another takedown. Tomeo fires in on the legs again for yet another takedown and ends up winning the first period 6-0.

2nd period

Roberts jumps out quickly to take a 3-1 lead with a pressuring style. Tomeo drives in and spins around for a takedown late in the period, but Roberts evens the match by winning the period 3-2.

3rd period

Roberts shoots in on the legs on a double for a takedown and cranks her over with a power half-nelson to build a quick 4-0 lead in the final two minutes. Tomeo fires in on a leg attack to make it 4-1 with a takedown late in the period, but can't turn Roberts in the closing seconds.

No. 2 Jacob Clark, Quantico, Va. (U.S. Marine Corps) dec. No. 1 Brad Vering, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC), 1-1, 2-1


1st period

Clark surprises Vering in a low-scoring battle and wins the first period to take charge early in the bout.

2nd period

Vering suffers a nasty gash on his forehead as the match remains scoreless with just under a minute remaining. Clark had another chance to turn Vering, but the veteran from Nebraska is tough defensively and won't give anything up. Clark is down 1-0, but counters a turn attempt in the closing seconds for a dramatic two-point move. That gives him the upset win.

No. 4 Zach Roberson, Ames, Iowa (Sunkist Kids) dec. No. 2 Michael Lightner, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids), 4-0, 1-3, 1-0

1st period

Roberson strikes first with a shot on the legs to take a 1-0 lead. Roberson shoots in again for a takedown and catches Lightner to gain a two-point exposure. Roberson wins the period 4-0.

2nd period

Lightner is in on a single-leg shot and gains two points for exposure as he takes Roberson down near the edge with 40 seconds left. Lightner leads 3-0. Roberson spins behind on a counter for a takedown to cut it to 3-1 with 20 seconds left. Lightner wins the period 3-1.

3rd period

Roberson fires in on a sweet single-leg shot and spins behind Lightner to take a 1-0 lead with just over a minute left. Roberson holds off a late charge by Lightner to win the period 1-0 and win the match.

Women 67 kg/147.5 lbs.
No. 1 Katie Downing, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids) dec. No. 2 Randi Miller, Arlington, Texas (USOEC), 1-0, 2-0.


1st period

Downing grabs the early lead and keeps it to win the first period 1-0 as she comes out strong.

2nd period

Downing continues to be the aggressor and powers in for a takedown early in the period to grab a 1-0 lead. Downing overpowers Miller again and goes behind her to double her lead to 2-0. Downing sweeps the match.

No. 1 Dremiel Byers, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army) dec. No. 2 Russ Davie, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC), 3-0, 4-0


1st period

Byers opens the scoring with a point when Davie is unable to score with a reverse body lift. Byers executes a gut wrench for two points to go up 3-0 with 15 seconds left in the period. Byers wins the period 3-0.

2nd period

Byers hits a gut wrench with 34 seconds left to lead 2-0. He adds two more points to prevail 4-0.

Freestyle 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
No. 1 Daniel Cormier, Stillwater, Okla. (Gator WC) dec.. No. 3 Nik Fekete, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC), 3-0, 5-0


1st period

Cormier goes to work right away, shooting in for a takedown in the first 15 seconds. He's in again on a single 20 seconds later, turning it into a takedown and a 2-0 lead. A third takedown follows late in the period as Cormier wins the period 3-0.

2nd period

Cormier powers in on a blast double for a takedown with 1:22 to go. Cormier uses a throw-by to slip behind for a takedown with 49 seconds left in the period. He finishes the period with another textbook double and wins the period 5-0.
