Three U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers eliminated at Vehbi Emre Golden Grand Prix in Turkey on Saturday

Three U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers competed and were eliminated from medal contention during the second day of competition at the the Vehbi Emre Golden Grand Prix in Izmir, Turkey, Feb. 25.

This tournament is one of the new FILA Golden Grand Prix events, which provides prize money to athletes based upon their placement. Competition is being held in men's Greco-Roman wrestling and women's freestyle wrestling.

The U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers who were defeated on Saturday were James Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Jeremy McLean (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marines) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Jeremy Pederson (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marines) at 84 kg/185 lbs.

All three U.S. wrestlers lost their first match, and were eliminated from the wrestleback rounds when the opponent who beat them did not qualify for the gold-medal match.

Three women's weight classes were contested on Saturday, but no U.S. women were in the competition at those divisions.

The competition completes on Sunday with more action in both men's Greco-Roman and women's freestyle wrestling. U.S. wrestlers will be in action in both styles on Sunday.
