Jackson, Hegedus, Maenza recognized by FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame



Three new members of the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame were recognized prior to the evening session of the World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary, October 1.

The three champions who were honored included:
- Freestyle wrestling star Kevin Jackson of the United States
- Greco-Roman wrestling star Csaba Hegedus of Hungary
- Greco-Roman wrestling star Vincenzo Maenza of Italy

The athletes were presented with their awards by FILA President Raphael Martinetti and FILA Bureau member Larry Sciacchetano, the leader of the Hall of Fame project, in a ceremony on the raised mat.

Jackson was a 1992 Olympic gold medalist at 82 kg/180.5 lbs., and won World gold medals in both 1991 and 1995.

Jackson currently serves as the National Freestyle Coach for USA Wrestling, leading the U.S. international freestyle effort.

Hegedus, a 1972 Olympic champion and 1971 World champion, is a legend in his native Hungary, where he serves as president of the Hungarian Wrestling Federation.

Maenza was a two-time Olympic gold medalist, winning titles in 1988 and 1992.

A total of 11 new members are being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Other new inductees will be honored during Sunday's action.
