Mark Scott named Director of National Events by USA Wrestling

Longtime employee Mark Scott of Colorado Springs, Colo. has been named Director of National Events by USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling. Scott assumes his new position after serving 12 years as the Director of State Services for the organization. Scott will direct USA Wrestling's national events department. He will develop USA Wrestling's schedule of national and regional competitions on all age levels, and will manage the operation and presentation of USA Wrestling national events. "USA Wrestling is pleased that Mark has agreed to direct our event programs," said USA Wrestling Acting Executive Director Rich Bender. "He brings a wealth of experience with the organization and the sport, as well as tremendous insight about event management. His efforts should allow our events to continue to grow and improve." "I am excited about this new position and looking forward to continuing a great tradition of quality USA Wrestling events," said Scott. "My background in the grass-roots area of USA Wrestling will allow for an enhanced integration of grass-roots needs with our event programs. In addition, I look forward to implementing new events and capitalizing on the tremendous opportunities of the new millennium, including the 2001 World Championships." Until a new Director of State Services is named, Scott will handle duties in both the National Events and State Services Department. Scott has provided distinguished service to the sport as Director of State Services. Scott was responsible for providing support and services to USA Wrestling's state associations, as well as to local clubs and individual members. During his years at USA Wrestling, membership rose from 89,284 in 1989 to a high of 127,589 in 1993. Numerous new programs and intitiatives were created under Scott's leadership. He has served as staff liaison for numerous USA Wrestling national and regional committees and councils on the grass-roots level. He also served as editor of USA Wrestling's annual rule book. In addition, Mark assisted the organizing committees for the 1995 World Championships and the 1996 Olympic Games in the area of event staging and production. In his position as Director of State Services, Scott was actively involved in the staging and presentation of numerous USA Wrestling national and regional events, especially on the age-group levels.
