Oklahoma State assistant coach Mark Perry steps down

STILLWATER, Okla. (OSU Athletics http://www.okstate.com) - Assistant head wrestling coach Mark Perry is resigning from his position at Oklahoma State, according to head coach John Smith. "Mark has left a lasting effect on Cowboy wrestling not only as a coach but as a two-time NCAA All-American," said Smith. "Mark is a good man, and we truly appreciate everything he has done for the legacy of Cowboy wrestling." Perry spent eight seasons on the wrestling staff as the assistant head coach under John Smith. He was an integral part of the 1993-94 national championship team and helped guide the Cowboys to two Big Eight titles and three Big 12 titles during his time in Stillwater. On the mat, Perry was a two-time Big Eight Champion and NCAA All-American during the 1983 and 1984 seasons for the Cowboys. He also ranks 18th on OSU's all-time career victories list. At Oklahoma State, Perry was responsible for bringing in top flight recruiting classes, while working with the lighter weights. Perry leaves the Cowboys in pursuit of other interests in the private sector. Smith said the position of assistant wrestling coach will be opened immediately.
