Adamson named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week

Riley Adamson (Rio Rancho, N.M.) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of June 29-July 5. Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Adamson captured the Greco-Roman and freestyle titles at 95 pounds on the Schoolboy/girl age level (13-14 years) at the Kids National Championships in Menomonie, Wis., June 30-July 3. With the victories, Adamson won an unprecedented sixth straight USA Wrestling Triple Crown, the most prestigious award in youth wrestling. An athlete wins the Triple Crown by claiming USA Wrestling national titles in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle the same year. He has now won two Triple Crowns as a Midget , two as a Novice, and two as a Schoolboy/girl. He has swept the Kids Triple Crown in all six years that he was eligible, winning 18 straight USA Wrestling national titles. In Greco-Roman, he pinned Dylan Alton of Lock Haven, Pa. in 3:40 to win the gold. In freestyle, he beat Matt Lester of Wildwood, Mo., 14-7 in the finals. He won 11 matches during the meet, five by technical fall, three by pin and one by a decision. Click here to view previous Athletes of the Week
