Changes made to
University Nationals age limit
In preparation for the 2013 Summer Universiade, or World
University Games, USA Wrestling has changed the age requirements for the 2013
University National Championships. The
reason for this change is to allow all wrestlers who are eligible to compete
internationally into the University Nationals, as this tournament is serving as
the University World Team Trials as well.
Only the following individuals may participate as
competitors in the 2013 University Nationals:
Students who are currently officially registered as
proceeding towards a degree or diploma at a university or similar institute
whose status is recognized by the appropriate national academic authority of
Former students of the institutions mentioned above who
have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the event.
All competitors must be U.S. citizens. They must be at least 17 and less than 28
years of age on January 1, 2013. Athletes must have graduated from high school in 2012 or before. 2013 graduates are not eligible.
The event also features competition for FILA Cadet age athletes (born 1996-1998) in Men's Freestyle and Greco-Roman. The champion in each FILA Cadet weight class qualifies to represent the United States at the 2013 FILA Cadet World Championships.
Top three place winners at this event qualify for your state's Cadet national teams (above the state limit) in the style in which you qualify. This is only for athletes born in 1997 or 1998. Athletes born in 1996 do not qualify for their Cadet national team. Athletes must still adhere to all state policies and you qualify in the style in which you place. The ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championships will be held in Fargo, ND, from July 12-20.
The top two University place winners in each Olympic weight class qualify for the 2013 World Team Trials.
