STILLWATER — Oklahoma State University has been selected to host the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials for all three Olympic wrestling styles, along with the FILA Junior World Trials at Gallagher-Iba Arena on June 21-23. Numerous World and Olympic medalists, and past U.S. World and Olympic Team members, are expected to compete including Jordan Burroughs, Clarissa Chun, Coleman Scott, and Jake Varner. Among the competitors are several current and former Oklahoma State wrestlers, including Obe Blanc and current Cowboy Jordan Oliver.

“We’re honored to be hosting the World Team Trials this summer,” said OSU Head Coach John Smith. “We have a legacy of World and Olympic athletes and medalists. There’s going to be some great wrestling. We’re going to have several Oklahoma State alumni competing, and it’ll be a fun event to watch.”

The U.S. World Team Trials, which begins the weekend on June 21-22, will determine the athletes who will compete at the 2013 World Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Sept. 16-22, as well as the U.S. national teams for the 2013-14 campaign in men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle.

The FILA Junior World Team Trials, held on June 23, will feature the nation’s top men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers between the ages of 17-20 competing for a chance to represent the U.S. in Sofia, Bulgaria, August 13-18.

The local organizing committee for the event will include Oklahoma State University, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum and the Stillwater Wrestling Club.

“Our Local Organizing Committee is excited to be hosting the World Team Trials in Stillwater,” said Lee Roy Smith, Executive Director of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. “We want to hold an event that will inspire our U.S. athletes to win World titles.” In addition Smith said, “The Hall of Fame will display an exhibit at the museum focusing on our 37 World Champions.”

“USA Wrestling is pleased to bring its top Senior-level domestic event of the year to Oklahoma, one of the hotbeds for our sport,” said Pete Isais, USA Wrestling National Events Director. “We are also excited to showcase our Olympic-level athletes on a major college campus, where wrestling is such an important sport. Oklahoma State has been committed to Olympic wrestling for generations and we expect this year’s World Team Trials to be a tremendous success.”

All-session tickets for the event will be available February 1st through the Oklahoma State ticket office or at theworldteamtrials.com. General admission is $30 and reserved 200-level tickets are $50. Single session tickets will be sold at a later date.
