Four Cadet wrestlers move within one victory of capturing Triple Crown

FARGO, N.D. – One final step remains for four wrestlers who are on the brink of capturing a prestigious USA Wrestling Triple Crown in the Cadet division.

Wisconsin’s Hunter Marko (94 pounds), California’s Aaron Pico (132), Texas’ Bo Nickal (160) and Minnesota’s Lance Benick (195) have advanced to the finals of the Cadet Nationals freestyle tournament. Nickal moved up a weight after winning a Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman title at 152.

The finals are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Fargo Dome.

Those wrestlers already own Cadet Nationals titles in Folkstyle and Greco-Roman wrestling this year.

There have been 10 Triple Crowns won in the Cadet division by nine wrestlers. Michigan’s Taylor Massa accomplished the feat twice.

Oklahoma’s Joe Smith, son of Oklahoma State coach John Smith, has advanced to the Cadet finals at 120

Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman champions Devin Schnupp of Pennsylvania (88), Cole Weaver of Michigan (126), Mason Manville of Minnesota (145), Kimball Bastian of Utah (160), Chandler Rogers of Washington (170), Roy Nash of Utah (220) and Wyatt Spears of Oregon (285) also reached the freestyle finals.

Cadet Nationals Folkstyle champions Matthew Kolodzik of Ohio (120) and Michael Pixley of Missouri (182) also are among the Cadet wrestlers who reached the finals.

Cadets are wrestlers who are ages 15 and 16.
