SIEDICE, Poland – The United States won four medals on the first day of the Ziolkowski International on Saturday, including two gold medals.
2012 U.S. Olympian Tervel Dlagnev won a gold medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Dlagnev beat Akgul Taha of Turkey in the championship finals, 1-0, 1-0.
Dlagnev, who was third in the 2009 World Championships, opened with victories over Dualet Shabanbay of Kazakhstan and Abdel Raouf El Dosoki Ismail of Egypt
In an all-USA finals at 55 kg/121 lbs., Obe Blanc defeated fellow American Angel Escobedo in the championship finals, 1-0, 0-1, 2-0.
Blanc went 3-0 for the day, also defeating Adrian Hajduk of Slovakia and Junior World champion Ahmet Peker of Turkey. Escobedo finished the day with a 2-1 record.
Winning a bronze medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. was Jarod Trice, who defeated Canadian Olympian Arjan Bhullar in the finals. His only loss was to finalist Akgul Taha of Turkey.
2012 Olympian Sam Hazewinkel dropped his only bout of the day to Junior World champion Ahmet Peker of Turkey. When Peker failed to reach the finals, Hazewinkel was eliminated.
Three U.S. wrestlers compete on Sunday: Logan Stieber (60 kg), Trent Paulson (74 kg) and J.D. Bergman (96 kg).
